Scope and Contents
The Edith W. Cooke scrapbook spans the years 1907 through 1913 with the bulk of the materials dating from 1910 through 1911. It offers a glimpse into the social life of a young woman on campus during those years, and especially highlights the activities of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
The materials include invitations, dance cards, party favors and name tags from many social events on campus, including those held by the sorority. The scrapbook also contains several pages of calling cards as well as many pages of photographs of friends and events on campus. Also included are programs for many student plays and musicals, including the program for the Cercle Français production in which Edith Cooke had a part. A few newspaper clippings of campus events and engagement announcements are also included.
Edith Cooke attended several of Delta Delta Delta national conventions; the scrapbook contains programs from these conventions as well as photographs of the participants. Many of the materials from 1911 relate to Cooke's graduation that year, including commencement announcements, invitations, programs, newspaper clippings, memory books and dried flowers. There is also an undated photograph of a 1911 class reunion. A 1939 newspaper article about a fellow classmate and a 1940 newspaper photograph of Northwestern University's Patten Gym appear to have been inserted at a later date.
