Scope and Contents

The Claudine Mason Papers are housed in one full-size box and one half-size box, and include biographical materials, files relating to Mason's formal education, and correspondence.

The biographical materials include a few biographical sketches, clippings about Mason's speaking engagements and her appointment to and retirement from Northwestern, and desk calendars recording her family, social, and organizational activities in Evanston in the 1940s.

The education files consist primarily of lecture notes from Mason's undergraduate study. Among her teachers were Ralph Heilman, Horace Secrist, and Frederick Deibler in economics; Franklin Bliss Snyder in English; William V. Pooley and Arthur Guy Terry in history; Delton T. Howard and Robert Gault in psychology; and William Locy in zoology.

The correspondence highlights some of Mason's major interests, especially those relating to Northwestern. Most fully documented are Mason's activities on behalf of several groups within the University's Alumni Association and the Associate Alumni. The correspondence also reflects the considerable time and effort she devoted to the University's Perceptions Committee, Northwestern class of 1921 reunions, and Zonta, an organization of executive women.
