Scope and Contents

The O.T. Hogan Biological Sciences Building, located on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University, was dedicated on November 12, 1970, slightly more than three years after its groundbreaking. Named for the insurance executive O.T. Hogan, the building's construction was funded through donations from the O.T. Hogan Family Foundation and the Kresge Foundation as well as grants from the U.S. Office of Education and the National Science Foundation. The architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, under the direction of supervising architect Walter Netsch, designed the building in cooperation with a biologica sciences faculty planning committee. The building features a central utility core, rooftop greenhouses, specialized laboratories and environment chambers, offices, and conference and seminar rooms.

The records in this series fill two and one-half boxes and span the years 1963 through 1972. Included are correspondence, reports, and other materials documenting the planning and construction of the O.T. Hogan Biological Sciences Building. Also included are proposals and correspondence relating to funding and grant support fox construction costs as well as correspondence between University representatives and the building's architects.
