Tod H. Francis (1959- ) Photograph Collection
Scope and Contents
The Tod H. Francis photograph collection spans the period 1977-1983 and fills 16 boxes. The collection contains color photographic negatives, prints, contact sheets, and transparencies documenting his work as a popular and successful photographer of campus, especially fraternity and sorority, activities. Materials are arranged according to physical format: 35 millimeter negative strips, prints, "line negatives" on reels, contact sheets, and transparencies.
Photographic negatives are found here in 35 millimeter format, both four to five-image strips and by the score on reels. Three boxes of strip negatives cover activities of the year 1979 and include a substantial quantity of unidentified, undated material.
A single box of prints follows, documenting several locations, themes, and events. None of the prints are dated.
Negatives found on reels, or "line negatives," span the years from 1979 to 1983 and cover many of the same events reflected in the contact sheets. These negatives tend to carry more detailed information with regard to the events they document. Each reel of negatives is identified with the name of the sponsoring organization and the name and date of the event.
The contact sheets are housed in three dropfront boxes. The subject matter depicted relates to numerous fraternity and sorority events held between 1979 and 1983. Much of the imagery available on contact sheets corresponds to photographs also found in the collection's group or reel or line negatives.
Three boxes of transparencies complete the collection and cover the period between 1977 and 1983. Subject matter relates primarily to locations and events on the Northwestern campus. Completing the collection are transparencies made for the production of the 1983 Men of Northwestern and Women of Northwestern calendars which were distributed by Northwestern's Athletic Department.
