Scope and Contents
The Ali Bulent Cambel Papers fill two and one half archival boxes and include biographical materials, publication drafts and correspondence, and a teaching file. The biographical materials consist of several curricula vitae, news releases, clippings, some general correspondence, and a few reprints of articles and speeches.
The publications files contain annotated drafts and correspondence relating to Gas Dynamics, published in 1958, which Cambel co-authored with Burgess H. Jennings. Also included is a folder containing errata, reviews, outlines, adds, royalty statements, and a book jacket for the book. A copy of the manuscript for Mathematical Methods of Thermodynamics (ca. 1950), correspondence relating to and a proof of Real Gases (1963, with D.P. Duclos and T.P. Anderson), and a file of notes for classes on gas dynamics complete the collection.

Abstract
Ali Bulent Cambel joined the Northwestern University faculty as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1953. His research involved mechanical engineering, gas dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and propulsion systems. He holds the patent on flame stabilization in jet engines. The Ali Bulent Cambel Papers fill two and one half archival boxes and include biographical materials, publication drafts and correspondence, and a teaching file.
Arrangement
Materials related Cambel's books are arranged in alphabetical order by title, and then by category of material, and chapter.
Method of Acquisition
The Ali Blent Cambel Papers were acquired by the University Archives as Accession number 74-31 and combined with the biographical folder from the University Archives faculty biographical files to form this series.
Separated Materials
Photographs were transferred to University Archives Photographic Collection. Six linear inches of duplicate and extraneous material was discarded. Abstracts and outlines of the 1955 Gas Dynamics Symposium were added to University Archives' General Files and filed under “Conferences.”
