Records of the Athletic Media Services
Scope and Contents
The Records of the Department of Athletic Media Services span the years 1871 to 2002, with the bulk of the materials dating from the 1950s through the 1990s. Records are organized alphabetically by the name of the sport, from baseball to wrestling. Within each sport, records are grouped chronologically; each season will have folders containing programs, statistics, and press releases, as well as other information generated during the season (such as box scores, recruiting records, rosters, and miscellaneous material). For most sports there is also a history file and/or an “all-time” statistics file to provide background information on the sport.
For sports such as tennis or swimming, where there are both a men's and a women's team, records are organized alphabetically by the name of the sport, then divided into men's and women's team records. In addition, two folders (box 52 folder 18, box 53 folder 1) contain the results of various women's sports at Northwestern University, 1975-1990.
One card-file box contains 3x5 index cards, organized alphabetically by sport, listing scores from sports events dating between 1871 and 1989/1990. Not every sport is represented in the index card file, but there are cards for two sports—water basketball and water polo—that are not otherwise documented in the rest of the series.

Each sport's season will have folders containing programs, statistics, and press releases, as well as other information generated during the season (such as box scores, recruiting records, rosters, and miscellaneous material). For most sports there is also a history file and/or an “all-time” statistics file to provide background information on the sport.
