Scope and Contents

Addition, Box 19 The Addition, which fills one box, comprises 13 folders of general flies and correspondence of University Provost Payson S. Wild, which date from 1949 through 1974. Included as well are nine folders concerning Northwestern University: A History 1850-1975, co-authored by Wild with Harold F. Williamson (1976). These Latter files, all of which date from 1974, include notes and files used by Wild in preparation of the book and four folders of copies of manuscripts of the text.

Addition, Box 20 The addition includes copies of correspondence between Wild and John F. Kennedy (the originals are in the John F. Kennedy Library), and letters between Wild and various correspondents concerning Kennedy and the Kennedy Library; invitations to the inaugural ceremonies of Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson; a privately printed commemorative volume, edited by John F. Kennedy, the subject of which is his older brother, Joseph; and copies of some of Kennedy's class materials from a course he took from Wild at Harvard. In addition, there is Wilds' 1926 BA thesis from University of Wisconsin.

Access to the original manuscript chapters of Northwestern University - A History and to the folder "Personal (P. S. Wild)" is by written permission of Payson S. Wild or the University provost until May 12, 1981. Access to the remaining materials in this series is by written permission of Payson S. Wild or the University Provost until May 12, 1986.
