Scope and Contents
This collection consists of photographs from the National High School Institute (NHSI) summer programs in Business, Education, Engineering, Journalism, Music and Speech. The bulk of the photographs date from the years 1950-1970. There are class photographs for many of the years. There are also photographs of students in the classroom, in laboratory settings, and on trips into the city of Chicago. Photographs of individual participants (usually small, identification-size shots) have been categorized as "Portraits." Most of these have the individual's name pencilled on the reverse.
The bulk of the collection consists of photographs from the National High School Institute programs offered by the School of Speech. These photographs include not only class and group images, but also photographs of the NHSI productions staged each summer.

Arrangement
The photographs are organized alphabetically by the program name, then by date, then by the size of the photograph.
Method of Acquisition
These photographs were received as an undated accession (circa 1978) by the University Archives.
Separated Materials
A few duplicate photographs were separated.
