Scope and Contents

The Leadizing Company Records occupy 3.5 boxes and span the period of 1913-1933. All records are arranged in folders in chronological order. The records in this series are organized into six categories: income tax returns; blueprints; correspondence; canceled checks; bank vouchers; and orders, invoices, and shipping memos.

The income tax returns were filed under the name of Robert J. Shoemaker. These records document his income, taxed income, and income tax returns for the years 1920-1932.

The blueprints are drawings of Robert J. Shoemaker's invention for lead-plating metal, dated 1916-1918. Included are drawings for a leadizing tank, tools, cover, skids for rolling leadizing flues, and a leadizing vat.

The correspondence spans the years 1916-1933. These records include the personal correspondence of Robert J. Shoemaker to and from friends, letters describing and promoting the sale of his invention to prospective companies, letters from companies inquiring about his invention, letters seeking employment, letters to and from his lawyers pertaining to patents, patent law, and applications to patent his invention, and letters written and received by the Leadizing company throughout the course of its routine business.

The Leadizing Co. cancelled checks provide a detailed record of all the expenses incurred and paid by the company for the years of 1925-1928, and part of 1930. In addition, a few personal checks from Robert J. Shoemaker are included in this folder.

The Leadizing Co. bank vouchers record the status of the company's bank account--deposits and balances--for the years 1925-1928, and part of 1930.

The orders, invoices, and shipping memos provide a detailed account of all business transactions between the Leadizing Company and other companies during the years of 1925-1930.
