Scope and Contents

The John T. O'Neil Papers are arranged in seven main categories: biographical material; course material; case materials; materials related to the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administration (IESA); items pertaining to University committees and administrative work; meeting and conference materials; and publications.

The biographical material includes several biographical information sheets, a small amount of correspondence (1961-1977), and miscellaneous other items.

The course and case materials include notes, schedules and curricula, and lists pertinent to O'Neil's teaching, primarily at Northwestern. Some student papers are also included.

The Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administration materials include agenda, minutes, reports, correspondence, budget records, and notes.

The meeting materials, which comprise the smallest category, relate to planning the programs for meetings (1959, 1964, 1971) in which O'Neil was involved.

The bulk of the material relative to his publications consists of correspondence and various drafts of Quantitative Controls for Business.

Abstract

John T. O'Neil became an instructor in business economics and statistics at Northwestern University, while working on his doctorate. In 1956 he returned to Northwestern as associate professor of business administration, becoming professor of finance in 1963. O'Neil also held several administrative positions at Northwestern, including assistant dean of the School of Commerce, and coordinator for the quantitative controls in business program. The John T. O'Neil Papers are arranged in seven main categories: biographical material; course material; case materials; materials related to the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administration (IESA); items pertaining to University committees and administrative work; meeting and conference materials; and publications.

Arrangement

The John T. O'Neil papers are organized into: biographical material; course material (arranged by course number, plus miscellaneous materials and student papers); case material (in alphabetical order); Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administration (materials arranged in several clusters, each sub-arranged chronologically); University committees and administrative work (arranged by committee or school); meeting and conference materials (in chronological order); and publications (Cuantitative controls for business, and miscellaneous other materials).

Transferred to the University Archives from Professor O'Neil's office, Fall, 1977.
