Technological Institute Personnel Files

The Personnel Files of the Technological Institute comprise 6 boxes of records dating from 1902 to 1963, with the majority of records dating from the 1940s and 1950s. The records are in folders arranged alphabetically by surname and chronologically within each folder.

The majority of records are for members of the faculty of the Institute (includes graduate students teaching), but there are also some for other staff members. A file may include some or all of the following documents: vitas; forms for new faculty appointments, salary changes, resignations, payroll discontinuations and recommendations; correspondence regarding an individual's appointment or resignation; research questionnaires; and selective service affidavits. In addition some folders contain correspondence, telegrams, death notices, project notes and manuscripts. The involvement of the Technological Institute in World War II if reflected in many of these folders.

Material of a more public nature including newspaper clippings, printed and published materials and photographs, was removed from these records and incorporated into either the University Archives Biographical Files or Photographic Collection, both located in Room 110. This addition to the Technological Institute personnel files consist of individual files on technological institute faculty, dating from 1941 to 1997. The folders are arranged in the boxes alphabetically by surname; dates indicate the length of faculty members' employment at Northwestern University.
