Scope and Contents

The records in this series reflect the various activities of the Administrative Board and some of the committees of the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management Alumni Association (Northwestern University). In the aggregate, the materials in this collection span the years 1952 to 1977. Materials include: by-laws (1952; 1969; 1975), minutes (1952-1969), internal correspondence and correspondence between the Board and members of the Association (1952-1977), financial reports and matters relating to the fund drive campaigns (1969-1977). Also included in the series are membership lists of the Administrative Boards, and of the Alumni Association, as well as, of school graduates (1967-1977), calendars of activities (1963; 1968-1969; 1976), and some of the programs the Association organized, i.e., seminars, luncheons, dinners (1952-1971).

There is no clear distinction between records created by the governing bodies of the Alumni Association and those created by the Administration of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Many of the Alumni Association's functionaries were also members of the administration, and their activities were often intermingled. The records show that the engine behind the Association was indeed the School's Faculty and Administration. who drove the Association to act in accordance with their needs. This is particularly noticeable in the Alumni Affairs correspondence. The Alumni Affairs Committee acted as the liaison between the School and the Association. Its Director was a School administrator or faculty member whose correspondence was conducted sometimes on Alumni Association letterheads and sometimes on letterheads of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Boxes 2-4 contain Alumni Affairs Records. These records include correspondence (1964-1976), material relating to fund drives and programs such as seminars, luncheons, and dinners. The Alumni Affairs correspondence is filed under Alumni Affairs Reading Files in Boxes 3-4. Box 4 also includes records of the Development Committee, which was in charge of the fund drives (1974-1977). These records include financial reports and material relating to organization of the various fund drives.

The records of both local chapters, the Chicago Chapter and the Hospital and Health Services Chapter, are filed in Box 5 and include administrative records, directories, and programs for events that these two chapters organized, 1970-1976.
