Technological Institute Dedication Committee

The records of the Technological Institute Dedication Committee consist of four boxes of materials relating to the opening ceremonies of the Technological Institute on June 15-16, 1942. The records reflect the work of an honorary committee and a working committee appointed to carry out the ceremony planning. The materials relating to the Honorary Advisory Committee include committee lists, letters of acceptance, letters of regret, and replies to the acceptance letters.

The Working Committee was divided into subcommittees including: Arrangements, Budget (no records exist), Program, and Public Relations. The Arrangements subcommittee planned program participants' housing and the university and college delegates' itineraries. The Program subcommittee planned for the attendants' registration, the dedicatory exercises, addresses, convocations, luncheons, and the University President's reception on June 15. Correspondence and planning notes relating to the duties of these two subcommittees are present. The Public Relations subcommittee corresponded with representatives of universities and colleges, educational foundations, and political leaders to invite them to the dedication. All preparations for designing and mailing invitations were handled by the Public Relations subcommittee. Letters of regret from those who could not attend are included here.

Miscellaneous items include materials relating to the cornerstone ceremony in 1940 and news clippings of the 1942 dedication.

Addition, Box 1

The addition to the Technological Institute Dedication Committee consists of one box of materials relating to the opening ceremonies of the Technological Institute's new building addition held on October 10-11, 1963.

The records reflect the work of the Dedication Committee and its chairman, Burgess H. Jennings. Correspondence inviting representatives of corporations, government, professional societies, and universities to attend the dedication is included. Other materials included are invitation lists, minutes and related materials, lists of participants and guests, University press releases, program arrangements, and correspondence with the scheduled speakers for the ceremonies. Miscellaneous items present are dedication announcements, receipts of expenditures, and a few items of correspondence.
