Abstract
Herbert F. Fisk came to Northwestern University as Principal of the Preparatory School in 1873, and spent the remainder of his career at Northwestern. He was given a concurrent appointment as Professor of Pedagogy (a title later changed to Professor of Education) in Northwestern's College of Liberal Arts. The 30th anniversary of Fisk's principalship was celebrated in the fall of 1903 with a special conference on secondary education. He retired as Principal of the Academy in June of 1904, but continued to teach in the University until the close of the 1915-1916 academic year. His papers, spanning the period from 1874 to 1917, are arranged in nine folders, filling one box. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and writings by Fisk, including his report as Principal of the Northwestern University Academy in 1896, and the typescript of his chapter on the administration of President Joseph Cummings for Wilde's Northwestern University: A History (1905).
