Abstract Charles N. Zucker was awarded a Ph.D. in history from Northwestern University in August, 1972. The title of his doctoral dissertation was The Free Negro Question: Race Relations in Ante-Bellum Illinois, 1801-1860. Zucker's papers fill four boxes and date largely from the time of his studies at Northwestern. Included are extensive course, lecture, and reading notes, syllabi, bibliographies, examinations, and other curricular materials.

Abstract Historian and educator Paul Erwin began graduate studies in history at Northwestern University in 1946, taking religion courses at the Garrett Theological Seminary as well. The Paul Erwin Papers are housed in three boxes and date from 1946 to 1987, although the bulk are from 1946 until 1956. Abstract After a time in the U.S. Naval Reserve which interrupted his studies, Howard Franklin Bennett returned to Harvard in the spring of 1946.
