Abstract This series consists of individual copies of photographs that appeared in the 1982 Northwestern University annual, the Syllabus (Volume 98). The series includes only some of the photographs that appeared in Volume 98. It does not include photographs appearing on pages before 190 (Academic, Shoot Yourself, and Entertainment sections), senior class portraits (pages 366-417), photographs appearing on pages after 417 (Excess section), and all color photographs.

Abstract James L. Bixby was a member of Northwestern's class of 1943, though he did not complete the requirements for a degree. He was a photographer for the Purple Parrot, a highly regarded campus humor and feature magazine, as well as the Daily Northwestern and the Syllabus. Abstract William Reddick Martin was a photojournalist employed by the Fort Collins Coloradan. He later became a photographer for the U.S. Airforce during World War II. The collection reflects Martin’s student-era efforts at various forms of photography – photojournalistic, narrative, artistic, commercial, and portraiture – and appear to document his experiences in and around Denver, Colorado.

Deering Library Construction Photographs

Abstract The series consists of four binders of black and white photographs documenting the construction process and the newly finished structure of the Charles Deering Library at Northwestern University. With two or three exceptions, all photographs were taken by the Chicago Architectural Photographing Company. The photographs document each state in the building's construction, from bare ground to completed but windowless exterior; and show the completed building (both general views, and details).

Octavio da Costa Eduardo (1919- ) Papers

Abstract Octavo da Costa Eduardo came to Northwestern University in 1941 for two years of graduate study in anthropology. His graduate work was supported by the U.S. Department of State under the Buenos Aires Convention. The Octavio da Costa Eduardo papers fill three boxes. The papers include biographical material, correspondence, lecture notes, research papers, and other materials relating to Eduardo's undergraduate and graduate study.

Abstract This collection consists of photographs from the National High School Institute (NHSI) summer programs in Business, Education, Engineering, Journalism, Music and Speech at Northwestern University. The bulk of the photographs date from the years 1950-1970. There are class photographs for many of the years. There are also photographs of students in the classroom, in laboratory settings, and on trips into the city of Chicago.

Abstract Photographic portraits of many individuals, both surfmen and keepers, associated with the Evanston (Illinois) Station of the United States Life-Saving Service, are found in this volume. The portraits, mainly in standard cabinet format and dimensions, were made by a number of photographers, several (Aikin, Root, Charles Smith, and Fowler) with studios in Evanston. Dated photographs cover the years from 1888 to 1893. Most photographs, however, are undated.
