Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Paula Kamen interviewed men and women associated with the clandestine JANE abortion service in Chicago between 1969 and 1972 in order to obtain background material for a play, "JANE: Abortion and the Underground." Besides interviewing women who used the service, Kamen talked with Spencer Parsons, founder of Illinois and Chicago Clergy Consultation Services and dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, who referred women to JANE, and Paul Booth, one of the founders of Students for a Democratic Society. This collection includes transcripts of these interviews, the typescript of the play, and newspaper clippings and reviews of the play itself which opened at Imagine THeatre Co. in Chicago in January 1993.
