Scope and Contents
The following collection consists of the corrected manuscripts and typescripts for a group of essays, mostly written as book reviews for the New Statesman between 1970 and 1972. Pritchett writes about books by such authors as Graham Greene, E.M. Forster, Richard Ellmann, Vladimir Nabokov, Edmund Wilson, Walker Percy, Jorge Luis Borges, and Norman Mailer. Included as well are the drafts of essays on short story writing, satire and tourists.
Note: Nearly all holograph manuscripts and typescripts, whether carbon copies or original, have corrections and revisions on them.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection of V.S. Pritchett material was acquired by Northwestern University Library in 1972 from a London dealer.
Separated Materials
Copy of Penguin Modern Stories #9 with V.S. Pritchett stories included, and autographed by him, has been removed and catalogued for 20th Century English.
