Ronald Lyman Fair is an African-American writer known for his experimental and versatile literary forms. He is best known for his 1966 novel Hog Butcher, set in 1960s' Chicago.

Ronald L. Fair deposited this collection with the McCormick Library in the early 1980s for research by those who requested his permission. He formally donated the collection to the university in the late 1990s after moving abroad.
