Custodial History

On June 22, 1988, Laurie Gingrich, in charge of files at Kirkland & Ellis, phoned the Tribune Company Archives to report the discovery of another cache of files bearing on the Chicago Tribune--one carton which she was turning over to John Morrison of the firm. Morrison phoned and it was agreed that Marilyn Traum and John McCutcheon would pick the material up on Monday morning, June 27, 1988. The box included files on several unrelated subjects.

This initial deposit was followed by several others from Laurie Gingrich, which were processed into this collection:

  • July 25, 1988: the "bound corporate Bible" concerning the 1973 acquisition by Tribune Company of the Van Nuys, California, properties
  • August 8, 1988: a folder labeled "Max Annenburg (sic) Miscellaneous matters"
  • August 29, 1988: a folder labelled "George D. Houston: Tribune stock and estate matters"

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Received from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, Chicago Tribune Company, and Nexstar Media Group on January 10, 2020, accession #SPEC-2020-1.
