Scope and Contents

This exchange of ideas between Robert R. McCormick and Reuben Cahn over twenty-eight years covers a wide variety of financial and economic questions, many with political overtones. It furnishes invaluable insight into the relationship between the publisher and a member of his editorial staff, as well as the stances of both and of the paper, in regard to economic and political matters of the period. The collection includes notes by John T. McCutcheon, editor of the Chicago Tribune's editorial page.

Abstract

Reuben D. Cahn carried on an extensive correspondence with Colonel Robert R. McCormick from the time of his joining the Chicago Tribune in 1927, until the Colonel's death in 1955.

Arrangement

Arrangement completed prior to receiving the collection from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. The arrangement is primarily chronological, with a few thematic folders.

Custodial History

These files were retained in the office of the editorial writers until given to the McCormick Archives by John T. McCutcheon, editor of the editorial page, in 1973.
