Scope and Contents

Deeds, lease information, and other documents pertaining to the early history of the Tribune Company. Of historic interest is the bundle of papers consisting of assignments, extension agreements, canceled notes, etc., relating to the assignment of the Press and Tribune Company for benefit of creditors on 1858-11-08. The two newspapers had joined forces in the summer of 1858, but financial problems continued. In less than two years, creditors of the paper were paid.

On 1989-03-01, Tribune Properties, Inc., presented to the Tribune Company Archives a large envelope containing old deeds and other documents. These papers originally came from the Office of the Corporate Secretary
