The files include all of the in-house memoranda regarding the organization involved, plus most of the direct personal correspondence withn its officials.
The appearance of the name of an organization in this collection does not always mean that funds were given to it.

Abstract
Chicago Tribune Charities files on contributions made or requested. The agencies involved are nearly all charitable or civic; a few are business organizations. The files include all of the in-house memoranda regarding the organization involved, plus most of the direct personal correspondence withn its officials.
Arrangement
Arrangement completed prior to receiving the collection from the McCormick Foundation.
The files are in alphabetical order. Where volume warrants, the material regarding an organizaiton is filed separately in its original folder or folders. Where the volume is small, organizations have been grouped under a letter or a common prefix such as "Chicago" or "National." Some organizations are not represented by folders; materials for them are simply inserted between other folders. When looking for materials related to an organization, try first under its name; if not found, try elsewhere in the appropriate box.

Separated Materials
Some material was discarded during processing--chiefly brochures and published reports, form letters, and photocopies of checks.
