Aubrey Beardsley Bibliographical Notes

The archival data in this collection consists of bibliographical annotations of various editions of volumes containing drawings by Aubrey Beardsley. It includes annotated excerpts or photocopies from Beardsley bibliographies, holographic notes, a completed typescript for a book, and a copy of the typescript annotated with corrections and additions. The author of this material is unknown; as far as has been determined, the volume was never published.

The bookselling firm of J. Stephan Lawrence acquired this archival material and included it as an item in their own Beardsley catalog. Robert Mueller, now an independent dealer, worked on their catalog in 1979-1980 using the notes from this archive. In his research he attempted to locate a possible author for this extensive work on Beardsley. The collection includes his correspondence with Beardsley collector W.G. Good, and employees of Sotheby Parke Bernet, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, and Princeton University Library regarding this endeavor.
