Scope and Contents

Warning: contains graphic surgical content as well as views of a partially dissected human cadaver.

Silent, black and white film taken by Sheridan C. Waite, DDS, showing various unknown operations, presented without context and sometimes obscured by the surgeons’ hands. Includes oral surgeries, surgeries on the neck, throat, and other unknown body parts, as well as display of veins and tendons on the left side of the face and neck of a cadaver. Surgeries are interspersed with shots of people including surgeons and nurses smiling and talking to the camera.

Non-surgical content includes a group of men walking down the street at the beginning of the film, and views of the area around Northwestern’s Chicago campus at the end of the film, including the 211 East Delaware Apartment Hotel, the Palmolive building, the Ward Memorial Building, and Lake Michigan, and people walking on the beach. The film ends with a man looking through papers at a desk.
