Scope and Contents

Collection consists of three volumes belonging to Arthur Isaac Kendall, professor of bacteriology (1912-1924, 1927-1942) and Dean of Northwestern University Medical School (1916-1924):
1. Handwritten notes taken by Kendall as an undergraduate in Arthur Noyes's organic chemistry lectures at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1899.
2. Typewritten notes taken by Kendall as a medical student in pathology lectures by William George MacCallum and Roy McLean van Wart at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, 1902-1903.
3. Album of notes and pictures from colleagues, students, and others, commemorating Kendall's time as professor and Dean at NUMS from 1912-1924. Signers include many prominent figures at Northwestern and in Chicago medicine, such as Isaac A. Abt, Joseph B. De Lee, Leslie B. Arey, Winfield S. Hall, H. Gideon Wells, Ludwig Hektoen, and A.J. Carlson.

Two volumes of lecture notes taken by Arthur Isaac Kendall as a student and a presentation album with notes and pictures given to Kendall after stepping down as Dean of Northwestern University Medical School.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Volumes of organic chemistry and pathology lecture notes were gifted by Kendall in June 1942. Presentation album was gifted by Kendall's daughter Alice Callaway at an unknown date.

Physical Description

Pathology notes: leather on spine is cracked and damaged, much of the ink throughout the volume is faded; organic chemistry notes: spine damaged, boards and some pages detached.

Volume of organic chemistry notes was previously processed separately as "Organic Chemistry Lecture Notes," ghsl-7.
