Abstract George Albert Coe was born in Monroe County, New York, on March 26, 1862, the son of Reverend George W. and Harriet Van Voorhis Coe. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor of arts degree in 1884 and a master of arts degree in 1888. Abstract The papers of William A. Earle (a member of Northwestern University's Department of Philosophy from 1948-1982) fill one box and date between 1941 and 1988. The collection consists of biographical materials, his writings (dissertations; and other writings), and correspondence. The biographical materials include Earle's diplomas, his undergraduate convocation program, press releases, resumes, and obituaries.
Abstract The Philosophy Department administrative records date from 1959-1984. Records included in the series are budget statements, course planning materials, Evening Division and Summer Session materials relating to the department, faculty and staff materials, grade reports, lists of students majoring in philosophy, departmental meeting minutes, departmental memoranda, general correspondence, and quarterly reports.
Abstract This series is comprised of Philosophy Department graduate admission records for the period 1982-1984. Individual files generally include one or more of the following: applications for admission and financial aid, letters of recommendation, grade transcripts, Graduate Record Examination reports, graduate admission office evaluation forms, and pertinent correspondence. Students' writing samples may be found occasionally in the files.
Abstract The Paul A. Schilpp Papers fill one box, spanning the years 1935 to 1993, and providing an overview of Schilpp's life and career as a Northwestern University professor of philosophy and a Methodist minister. The bulk of the materials consist of newspaper clippings, press releases, and articles and reprints of journal publications as well as a small amount of biographical material and correspondence.
Abstract The Eliseo Vivas Papers fill 17 boxes (one is half-size) and span the period 1922-1987. They are arranged in five categories: biographical materials, correspondence, teaching files, speech manuscripts and papers, and publications.
