Wakefield Vellum Documents

Abstract This collection of vellum documents was purchased from William C. Wakefield by Northwestern University in 1959. There are more than 300 documents including indentures, deeds, leases, omnibuses, wills, a few court rolls, conveyances, and other legal documents from the fourteenth century through the early twentieth century. Willis Weaver Collection

Abstract Rev. Willis Weaver was chaplain of the Illinois Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion. He had a scholarly interest in Edwin M. Stanton, President Lincoln’s Secretary of War. This collection of material consists of typescripts of several of his articles on Stanton, as well as the published version of an address on Stanton given before the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, Commandery of Illinois, in Chicago in 1927.

Abstract The Carl Weissner Archive consists of correspondence, tapes of poetry readings, manuscripts and graphic materials by international avantgarde writers of the 1960s, and some monographs and serials related to these authors. Included are works by such authors as William Burroughs, Harold Norse, Ezra Pound, Charles Bukowski, Claude Pélieu, Mary Beach, Dan Georgakas, Donatella Manganotti, and Jan Herman, as well as Carl Weissner himself. Many of these artists were part of the Fluxus movement.

Abstract This collection consists primarily of the original typescript for Richard Wright's book Black Power. The manuscript contains corrections, additions, and deletions, including long holograph passages. Much of the material in this draft was never published, so it is significant for documenting Wright’s original intentions in recording his experiences in Ghana.
