Abstract While a student at Northwestern University (beginning in 1924), Luke A. Johnsons earned a total of seven letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He played football for the Chicago Bears, becoming player-coach, and serving as co-head coadh during World War II. He remained with the Bears until 1968. Abstract The papers in this series are as varied as the career of their creator. Spanning the years 1860 to about 1890, they document Jones' experiences as an educator, lecturer, journalist, and poet. While they illustrate many phases of his life, the papers contain little personal correspondence and scanty biographical information. Perhaps most revealing are two ledger volumes of Jones' poetry and essays, and a scrapbook.

Abstract Mayde Joss served as housemother for Northwestern's chapter of Phi Delta Theta, a fraternity located the campus of Northwestern University, from 1947 to 1973. The Mayde Joss collection consists of 33 small format black-and-white photographic prints and 13 35mm color slides. The photographs appear to date from the late 1940s or early 1950s, Joss’s early years as housemother for Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Abstract Myron Nutting (1890 - c1970), an American artist, and his wife Helen lived in Paris in the 1920s and became friends with the James Joyce family and others in their circle such as Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, and Sylvia Beach. Myron Nutting created the portraits of James, Nora and Lucia Joyce which hang in Special Collections, as well as crayon sketches of the entire family which are also held here.
