He later became educational director of the Communist Party of America, a position he held until 1945. Abstract In 1953 Northwestern University's School of Music hired Dorothy Lane, thereby introducing the harpsichord as an area of music studies at Northwestern. Lane later became part-time Associate Professor (1954), full-time Associate Professor (1964), Professor (1978), and Professor Emeritus (1979). The Dorothy Lane Papers consist of five folders of biographical, publicity, correspondence, and student files dating from 1936 to 1994.

Law School National Defender Project Records

Abstract The two-year (1969-1970) National Defender Project at the Northwestern University Law School was financed by a grant of $36,800 from the National Legal Aid and Defender Association. The project was designed to build on the already well-known program in criminal law for undergraduate and graduate students at the school. Lawrence O. Lawson (1842-1912) Scrapbook

Abstract The series consists of an oversized scrapbook of materials detailing the exploits of Lawson and the crews of the U.S. Lifesaving Station at Evanston. Included are newspaper and magazine clippings, correspondence, and a few photographs dating largely from the period 1880-1912. A small number of clippings date from the years after Lawson's death and into the 1940s.
