Abstract

This collection documents Northwestern's annual Trig Cremation ceremonies, which began in the 1870s as students conducted a spring-time ritual centered around the burning of their hated trigonometry textbooks. Over the years the ceremony turned into a student-produced musical. The collection contains clippings, and written histories of the Trig Cremation (1880-1936), as well as programs, handbills, and songbooks from ceremonies (1877-1912).

Daphne Maxwell Reid, a graduate of Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts and Science class in 1970, is a model, actress, fashion designer, photographer, and author. Her collection spans the years 1951-2018 and contains biographical materials, correspondence, modeling photos, acting scripts, original clothing from her fashion line, photography, and books. The papers of Daphne Maxwell Reid include 34 boxes and contain approximately 2.10 gigabytes of born-digital files.

Conductor Fritz Reiner's correspondence collection includes both personal and business correspondence, including letters to family, friends, and fans, and papers regarding his work with the Curtis Institute of Music and the Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Chicago Symphony Orchestras. Harriet Cain Reisser (1921-2003) Papers

The series consists of Reisser's Northwestern University course and lecture notes which date between 1937 and 1941. Filling two boxes, the notes are arranged according to the name of the academic department in which they were offered and then by course number. School of Speech course notes are filed together in Box 2 of the series. Numerous course syllabi and copies of Reisser's essays and examinations are included with the notes.

The personal papers of journalist Charles “Chuck” Remsberg fill 146 boxes and 2.09 gigabytes of born-digital files and span the years 1936-2014. Comprehensively documenting Remsberg’s long journalistic career and his early life, the materials include photographs, scrapbooks, correspondence, journals, memorabilia, research notes, drafts, manuscripts, clippings, audiovisual tapes, CDs, books and artifacts.

Nancy E. Rennick Price Papers

Abstract

Nancy Ellen (Rennick) Price was a member of the class of 1954 of Northwestern University's College of Liberal Arts. Her papers are contained in one archival box and span the years 1951 to 1954. There are nine folders containing schedules and class notes (scant) from some of Price's courses, including three courses in biology, and one folder each from courses in anthropology, American history, English, experimental psychology, genetics, and philosophy.

Northwestern University alumnus James (Jim) S. Roberts studied history and took photographs during a tumultuous time on and off the campus from 1969 to 1972. His photos (prints, color slides, and black-and-white negatives) include depictions of anti-war events such as the November 15, 1969 Moratorium march on Washington, D.C. and the May, 1970 strike at Northwestern University, as well as scenes from Cuernavaca, Mexico, and general student activities at Northwestern.
