Abstract Winifred Louise Ward began her studies as an undergraduate student at Northwestern University's Cumnock School of Oratory. After two years of directing plays and declamation contests, and teaching grade school she attended the University of Chicago. She received her Ph.D. in education in 1918. Soon after, Ward was asked to teach at Northwestern University's School of Oratory and that year began as an instructor and assistant professor, a career which was to last until her retirement in 1950....

Willis Weaver Collection

Abstract

Rev. Willis Weaver was chaplain of the Illinois Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion. He had a scholarly interest in Edwin M. Stanton, President Lincoln’s Secretary of War. This collection of material consists of typescripts of several of his articles on Stanton, as well as the published version of an address on Stanton given before the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, Commandery of Illinois, in Chicago in 1927.

Arthur Josiah Weiss (1894-1984) was a student at Northwestern University’s Evanston Academy and began studies at Northwestern University before transferring to the University of California. The collection consists of Weiss’s “Memory and Fellowship Book,” a scrapbook documenting his Evanston Academy experiences and various activities dating between 1912 and 1914.

Abstract

The Carl Weissner Archive consists of correspondence, tapes of poetry readings, manuscripts and graphic materials by international avantgarde writers of the 1960s, and some monographs and serials related to these authors. Included are works by such authors as William Burroughs, Harold Norse, Ezra Pound, Charles Bukowski, Claude Pélieu, Mary Beach, Dan Georgakas, Donatella Manganotti, and Jan Herman, as well as Carl Weissner himself. Many of these artists were part of the Fluxus movement.

The papers of Theodore F. Welch Papers (Assistant University Librarian at Northwestern University) fill two boxes, and span the years 1967 to 1983. This collection contains articles and statements collected and organized in 1946 by Wilhelm Wexelsen from Norsk Artikkeltjeneste, the Norwegian News Service which operated during World War II. Material in this collection, which also includes propaganda, originated between 1943 and 1945. The collection includes propaganda materials from the AKI, "Anti-Communism Institute," between 1944 and 1945.
