Willson P. Brumback (1896-1981) Football Scrapbook

Abstract Willson Brumback's Scrapbook documents Northwestern's triumphal 1916 football season in seventeen pages of newspaper clippings. Seven pages of clippings are devoted to the October 21, 1916, game at Stagg Field, when the Northwestern Purple beat the Chicago Maroons 10-0, NU's first win over Chicago since 1901. The majority of the clippings date between October and November 1916, and include those from the Daily Northwestern, local Chicago newspapers, and the papers local to the away games....

Dennis Brutus (1924-2009) Papers

Abstract

Dennis Brutus, poet and South African expatriate, was an activist, working for an end to racial segregation in sport. He joined Northwestern University's faculty in 1971, and left to joint the faculty of the University of Pittsburg in 1986. The Dennis Brutus Papers comprise correspondence, papers associated with specific organizations and events, and numerous drafts of poems, both handwritten and typed.

Abstract Dennis Brutus was a South African anti-apartheid activist, poet, and educator. The Dennis Brutus Defense Committee was formed in response to efforts by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service to deport him following the invalidation of his Rhodesian passport. When British Rhodesia became independent Zimbabwe, Brutus' passport was revoked. As a result, Brutus was technically rendered an illegal alien. The C. M. Clay Buntain Scrapbook documents Buntain's activities at Northwestern between 1894 and 1902. John Cage correspondence

Scope and Contents

The Cage Correspondence collection is comprised of correspondence and ephemera including letters, cards, clippings, catalogs, photographs, negatives, cassette tapes, music scores, and art.  Early materials focus on family correspondence and newspaper clippings and are interspersed with Cage's own notes and manuscripts.  Later correspondence is enhanced through Cage's use of "Note-o-Grams" which provides carbon copies of his sent messages.

John Cage Notations Project collection

Abstract John Cage was already established as an influential American composer and important leader of post-World War II avant-garde music when he began his Notations project in the mid-1960s. Abstract

Ali Bulent Cambel joined the Northwestern University faculty as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1953. His research involved mechanical engineering, gas dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and propulsion systems. He holds the patent on flame stabilization in jet engines. The Ali Bulent Cambel Papers fill two and one half archival boxes and include biographical materials, publication drafts and correspondence, and a teaching file.
