Charleston County, South Carolina Records

Abstract The Carolina settlement of Charles Town, named in honor of King Charles II of England, was established after English settlers arrived in 1670; it was renamed Charleston in 1783. From 1720 until 1773 South Carolina was under English jurisdiction as a Crown Colony. This collection consists of twenty volumes of bound carbon copy transcriptions of records from Charleston County, South Carolina kept between 1719 and 1763.

Abstract Clark's diary is a four-by-six, bound book. The printed title page describes it as “Ward's ‘Line a Day’ Book, A comparative record for five years” (copyright 1892). Abstract Elizabeth Clarke, a resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, served on the Illinois Commission on the Status of Women and its successor, the Citizens Council on Women. Both councils reported to the Illinois General Assembly on issues important to women, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, employment discrimination, health and welfare. Reports and recommendations included information on legislative proposals dealing with Illinois agencies and associations that considered women’s needs.

Abstract The University Archives holds photographs of individual freshman members of the class of 1978. The photographs appeared in the introductory booklet published by the Northwestern University Alumni Association for freshmen entering the University. The photographs, usually wallet-size, are mounted in groups, alphabetically arranged by student surnames, on forty-five fifteen inch-by-twenty-one inch sheets of cardboard.
