Abstract Fred Basolo was an inorganic chemist who lived from 1920 – 2007. He was awarded a Ph.D. from University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign in 1943. In 1946, Basolo joined the Northwestern University faculty in the chemistry department. Russian chemist Vladimir Ipatieff's Papers fill twelve boxes, span the period 1867-1952, and are arranged in five major categories: personal correspondence; publications; diaries; miscellaneous manuscripts; and personal records and memorabilia. Two folders of biographical material (mainly clippings and articles about Ipatieff) precede the main body of records, while two boxes of additions follow it.
