Abstract Raymond W. Mack began his career at Northwestern as an assistant professor of sociology in 1953, and became a full professor in 1962. He was the founding director of Northwestern's Center for Urban Affairs from 1968-1971. He left teaching to become Vice President and Dean of Faculties, then Provost.
