Abstract
In 1942, Beam accepted an appointment at Northwestern University as an assistant professor of electrical engineering. The University promoted him to associate professor in 1947 and professor in 1950. He retired from Northwestern on December 31, 1979. While at Northwestern Beam was deeply involved in the work of the university's Microwave Laboratory.
