Abstract Manasseh Cutler (1742-1823) was ordained as a minister of the Congregational society, later serving as a chaplain in the Continental army. Cutler also studied medicine and had a fascination for botanical study and astronomy, publishing papers and being elected to the American Academy. Randolph Sinks Foster (1820-1903) was a Methodist minister and served as the third president of Northwestern University, from 1857-1860. The Randolph S. Foster Papers fill one half-size box and span the years 1857-1949. They consist of biographical materials, one letter from Foster, and later correspondence relating to Foster.
