Abstract James L. Bixby was a member of Northwestern's class of 1943, though he did not complete the requirements for a degree. He was a photographer for the Purple Parrot, a highly regarded campus humor and feature magazine, as well as the Daily Northwestern and the Syllabus. The University Archives holds photographs of individual freshman members of the class of 1978. The photographs appeared in the introductory booklet published by the Northwestern University Alumni Association for freshmen entering the University. The photographs, usually wallet-size, are mounted in groups, alphabetically arranged by student surnames, on forty-five fifteen inch-by-twenty-one inch sheets of cardboard.

Octavo da Costa Eduardo came to Northwestern University in 1941 for two years of graduate study in anthropology. His graduate work was supported by the U.S. Department of State under the Buenos Aires Convention. The Octavio da Costa Eduardo papers fill three boxes.
