Fred Basolo was an inorganic chemist who lived from 1920 – 2007. He was awarded a Ph.D. from University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign in 1943. Dennis Brutus was a South African anti-apartheid activist, poet, and educator. The Dennis Brutus Defense Committee was formed in response to efforts by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service to deport him following the invalidation of his Rhodesian passport.
