Biography

Lawrence "Larry” M. Nagin was born on February 14, 1941 in San Francisco, California, and was raised in Los Angeles. He received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Southern California in 1962, and a J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1965. From 1966 to 1980 he practiced law as the Deputy Public Defender for the County of Los Angeles, Special Counsel to the City Attorney of the City of Los Angeles, and finally as Senior Assistant City Attorney for the Los Angeles Department of Airports.

Nagin went into private practice in 1980 as an executive in the airline industry. He initially worked for the Flying Tigers, the world's largest all-cargo airline at the time. Nagin joined United Airlines in Chicago in 1988 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He joined US Airways in 1996 and served there until his retirement in 2002. Apart from his work in the airline industry, Nagin was a lifelong traveler, aviation enthusiast, and collector of airline timetables, menus, and other memorabilia. Nagin died on January 28, 2009.
