Biography

LeRoy Irving Wetzel was born in 1886 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Clara Barbara Jensen on July 7 1914, and the couple had two children: Barbara (1915) and Eugenie (1917). A choral conductor, organist and composer, Wetzel was the director of music at the First Methodist Church of Evanston, Illinois, the People’s Church of Chicago, and Carl Schurz High School, in Chicago. He also conducted a Glee Club in Chicago. Later, he served as a staff member at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music. Wetzel published several choral scores, including “In the Merry Month of May,” “Ring out Wild Bells,” and an arrangement of “Silent Night.” He died in Los Angeles, California on October 12, 1956.

Abstract
