Abstract

Group of 9 original photographs of Dar es Salaam. Unidentified photographer, circa 1896-1900.

General

A handwritten note has been included with this group of photographs. It reads, "Most of these photos are mislabeled. They are in fact shots of Zanzibar. See duplicates in no. 56. Note inserted 10/15/03 by J. Glassman." Five of the 9 photographs do match photographs in Group #56, volume 2, which bears the spine label "Zanzibar, 1908/A.E.B". Captions appear to have been added when the prints were mounted on paper, and are printed on the paper rather than on the prints themselves.
