2 cartes-de-visite, 1870s, one of Sir Henry Bartle Frere, the other of Barghash bin Said, Sultan of Zanzibar from 1870-1888.

Historic Notes

Sir Henry Bartle Frere was a diplomatist sent to Zanzibar in 1872 by the British Government to negotiate a treaty with the Sultan, Seyyid Barghash bin Said, to end the slave trade.
