Tippu Tib
Scope and Contents
Pictures include a studio portrait of Tippu Tip, the Zanzibari slave and ivory trader, portrait photographs of Swahili women, and outdoor scenes in and around Zanzibar, including the Sultan's Palace after the bombardment of 1896 and after reconstruction. Most of the photographs have captions handwritten on the verso and these differ somewhat from the captions supplied in the inventory, as noted.
