Biographical / Historical
This collection of slides originated in the University of Wisconsin--Madison's African Studies Program. Its creation and development throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s was funded by various sources and maintained largely by graduate student assistants, the intent of which was to use these slides for projects to aid teaching and research about Africa. While under the administration of the University of Wisconsin's African Studies Program, this collection of slides was drawn on to support presentations on Africa by faculty and staff, and by members of the community and teachers in the kindergarten through twelfth-grade levels.

Abstract
Slides of Africa from various sources; these slides document a variety of topics such as agriculture, landscapes, city scenes, villages, architecture, industry, transportation, commerce, and people, from throughout Africa during the 20th century.
Arrangement
One part of the collection is arranged by country and broad topic; this arrangement follows a classification system developed while the slides were in the custody of the University of Wisconsin African Studies Program. Further documentation on this arrangement scheme can be found in Boxes 94-99, which contain guides to the collection from the 1980s and 1990s. Other parts of the collection have brief descriptions, or are represented by printed guides. The remaining parts of this collection have no particular discernable arrangement.
