The Fiedler Hillel records document the organization's activities and administration. The records consist of 27 boxes spanning the years 1981-2008. Records are into the following categories: Administrative Records, Hillel Professional Staff, Louis and Saerree Fiedler Hillel Center, Programs, Events and Religious Services, Student Groups, and Related Organizations.

The Administrative records series include: founding documents, financial records, Governing Board, Board of Directors, Student Executive Board, fundraising, and accreditation.  These folders typically contain materials such as meeting minutes, agendas, reports and correspondence. 

The Hillel professional staff includes subseries pertaining to Hillel staff positions including the Director, Campus Rabbi, Executive Director, Jewish Student Life Coordinator, JCSC Fellows, and a general subseries comprised of records related to Hillel Staff Administration. Correspondence from these staff members can be found within these subseries as well as throughout other series within the collection.

The Louis and Saerree Fiedler Hill Center series contains records associated with the facility's planning and construction during the mid-1990s.  Types of materials include Project Committee meeting minutes and agendas, weekly reports, correspondence, blueprints and architectural drawings.

The Programs, Events and Religious Services series contains records associated with continuing activities and one-time events sponsored or supported by Fiedler Hillel. Most events, programs and religious services are held at Northwestern University, but some programs are held abroad such as Birthright Israel and Alternative Spring Break. The bulk of these records relate to High Holidays, Passover and Shabbat services held at Fiedler Hillel from the early 1980s to 2008.

The Student Groups series is comprised of records associated with the various student groups supported by Fiedler Hillel.

Related Organizations contains records pertaining to organizations associated with Fiedler Hillel at Northwestern. These organizations include records associated with Hillel beyond Northwestern such as Hillel of Illinois and National Hillel. This series also includes records associated with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, one of the primary sources of funding for Fiedler Hillel at Northwestern.

Conditions Governing Access

There are no restrictions on use of the materials in the department for research; all patrons must comply with federal copyright regulations. This collection is stored off-site and requires two business days advance notice for retrieval.
