The Biographical Files contain clippings collected regarding Lambert's life, awards, publications, and achievements. This information will be of particular use to researchers who in search of either an overview of Lambert's work, or outside opinions on Lambert and his research.

The Subject Files span twenty boxes in two series, and contain a variety of documents related to the field of organic chemistry. Most notable are a number of items related to Lambert's involvement with chemistry research organizations and journals such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry. Also included are files related to Lambert's teaching activities and his involvement with Northwestern University.

The Student Files span 11 boxes and contain Lambert's documentation regarding the progress of his student advisees, and other students. All files in this section are restricted and can only be accessed with the permission of the University Archivist.

The Manuscripts Files span 12 boxes and contain various papers, books, and drafts written by Lambert throughout his career as well as a few awards directly related to that work. Of particular note are Lambert's drafts for his book on NMR and his thesis drafts.

The Correspondence Files span 12 boxes and contain letters, e-mails, faxes, etc. related to Lambert's work. These include correspondence with collaborators, publishers, and other researchers and professors.
