Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Donald S. Berry papers fill three boxes and span the years 1935 to 1990. They are arranged into five categories: biographical materials, research and consulting files, awards, publications, and teaching files.

The biographical materials include a series of curricula vitae ranging from 1966 to 1990, updated every few years. Also included is a sketch entitled "Was This Your Life?" presented at Berry's farewell dinner. A guest book of visitors to the Berry house, dating from 1957 to 1988, is of special interest. The correspondence consists exclusively of testimonial letters written to Berry upon his retirement in 1979.

The research and consulting files relate to Berry's work in a non-academic setting. This work involved consulting for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and for foreign cities regarding their traffic problems.

The awards category contains press announcements concerning awards given to Berry. Also included in this category is related correspondence of a congratulatory nature.

The publications files consist of articles Berry contributed to periodicals and manuals.

The teaching files concern courses presented by Berry at Northwestern University and other institutions. Also included are materials related to his teaching in foreign countries.
