Society of Medical History of Chicago, From 1991

This addition to the William K. Beatty Papers fills nine boxes and spans the dates 1955 to 1998, with the bulk of the records dating between 1980 and 1998. The addition includes some correspondence, consulting files, and materials relating to Beatty's participation in various professional organizations, arranged alphabetically by subject within these sub-series, and in rough chronological order within the folder.

The bulk of the additions consists of papers presented or articles written by Beatty. He contributed a number of entries to encyclopedias and biographical dictionaries, including the American National Biography, as well as to histories of medicine. Among other journals to which Beatty contributed, the Proceedings of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago published over forty of his articles between 1979 and 1995. Of particular interest are the many biographical articles about local figures in the field of medicine, some of whom were connected with Northwestern University Medical School (including Drs. Nathan Smith Davis, Howard Ricketts, and Louis Schmidt). The papers and articles are arranged alphabetically by organization name, publication name, or publisher, and then alphabetically by title or, in the case of biographical articles, by the surname of the subject. In addition to the final drafts of the paper or article, these folders also contain correspondence with publishers and research sources (archivists, librarians, and descendants) and some research notes.

The final folders in the addition document Beatty's involvement, as officer and member, in the Evanston Human Relations Committee between 1970 and 1977. These records, arranged by year and in rough chronological order within the year, consist of meeting minutes and notes.
